Written on

Representatives of Turkmenistan and Iran met Monday in Tehran to discuss the possible establishment of joint trade zones at the Sarahs–Sarahs and Altyn Asyr–Incheborun border checkpoints along the Turkmen-Iranian border.

The discussions took place during a meeting between ambassadors of Commonwealth of Independent States countries accredited to Iran and the secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council for Free Trade, Industrial and Special Economic Zones, according to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Iran.

The sides discussed cooperation in free trade, industrial and special economic zones, as well as ways to increase transport volumes and develop tourism.

The meeting was attended by heads of diplomatic missions from CIS countries and Iranian officials responsible for free and special economic zones.

In December 2025, Turkmenistan and Iran agreed to increase transit through the Serakhs border crossing.
