Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in ensuring international information security, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

The document was signed following a round of political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries held in Ashgabat. The Turkmen delegation at the talks was led by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, while the Uzbek delegation was led by Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.

In addition, the parties signed a cooperation program between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan for 2027–2028.

During the consultations, the foreign ministers discussed the state and prospects of the Turkmen-Uzbek strategic partnership. Following the meeting, it was noted that regular high-level visits, meetings, and negotiations remain a key factor in strengthening bilateral ties.

The parties also focused on coordinating their approaches within the UN, the CIS, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Economic Cooperation Organization, and the Non-Aligned Movement, reaffirming their readiness to continue supporting each other's international initiatives.

Issues of trade and economic cooperation occupied a prominent place in the negotiations. The parties emphasized the need to diversify bilateral trade, expand investment cooperation, and enhance the effectiveness of the joint Turkmen-Uzbek commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical, and cultural cooperation.

Prospects for developing transport and transit connectivity, establishing new international transport corridors, and deepening cooperation in industry, agriculture, energy, and the digital economy were also discussed.

The parties noted the positive momentum of cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, healthcare, youth policy, and sports, and reaffirmed their interest in expanding people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
